ESPN FPI Projects Two Losses

ESPN's Football Power Index and simulations project that Alabama will finish the regular season with two losses.

Despite entering the season at #3 in the Coaches Poll, ESPN's magical football predictor thinks Bama will struggle on the road, losing at Georgia and Texas A&M, with only a 46.6% and 48.3% chance of winning each of those games.

Odds of Alabama Winning Each Game

ESPN FPI Projected SEC West Standings

FPI projects Ole Miss will win the West at 7-1, taking advantage of their SEC East draw--Vandy and Florida--and losing only to Alabama.

  1. Ole Miss: 7-1 (Lose to Alabama)
  2. Alabama: 6-2 (Texas A&M, Georgia)
  3. LSU: 6-2 (Alabama, Ole Miss)
  4. Texas A&M: 6-2 (Ole Miss, LSU)
  5. Arkansas: 3-5 (Texas A&M, Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU)
  6. Auburn: 2-6 (LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia, Alabama)
  7. Mississippi State: 1-7 (LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, Ole Miss)

That's a 2-6 conference record for Auburn, who Sports Illustrated has at #2 in their preseason rankings.

ESPN FPI Projected SEC East Standings

  1. Tennessee: 7-1 (Lose to Alabama)
  2. Georgia: 7-1 (Tennessee)
  3. Missouri: 5-3 (Tennessee, Georgia, Arkansas)
  4. Florida: 3-5 (Tennessee, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, Georgia; but beating FSU)
  5. South Carolina: 2-6 (Georgia, Missouri, LSU, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Florida)
  6. Vanderbilt: 1-7 (beating Kentucky)
  7. Kentucky: 0-8 (but beating Louisville)

If 2015 plays out the way ESPN predicts, Bama will beat both division champs but won't go to Atlanta because Ole Miss plays weak East teams. That should go over well.
