With all the excitement of National Signing Day, we forgot the Tide Basektball team was taking on Mississippi State Wednesday night. Probably a good thing, since they lost 66-73.

Well, as you probably now know, the Tide beat LSU. Or, being more honest, the Bayou Bengals out-sucked us on this afternoon. Either way, a win is a win, and that's a good thing... I suppose. Unfortunately, it might be the last taste of victory we get for some time. The next three games brings us Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Ole Miss, neither of which will likely result in a win.

The good news on the day was that Julio Jones was in attendance. He paid his own way to come up and catch the game, and came with four other Alabama commitments from the Mobile area -- Burton Scott, Robert Lester, Mark Barron, and D.J. Fluker. You never want to be count your chickens before they hatch, but it certainly does seem like we have arguably the to player in the country in the proverbial bag.

Now that the Alabama basketball team has a conference win under it's belt, I guess we can open our eyes, take our fingers out of our ears, and stop shouting "NANANANANANANANANA!" to drown out the abject misery that has been Tide basketball the past month or so. Just in time for the...aw, come on, I start paying attention now?! Damn it!

As I'm sure you all know by now, the Tide managed to drop another conference opener, this time a 90-83 loss to a very young Florida team that it had dominated the entire first half.

Of course, some of the same old problems plagued Alabama. It shot 58 percent from the free throw line, making just 15-of-26. And it allowed the Gators to shoot 51 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point line.
