Until we fully figure out everything on the new platform, I'm going to have to give you a YouTube instead of a streaming song for my Random 10 contribution this week. For those of you out there that are Tom Waits fans, he announced his summer tour this week and he'll be stopping in Birmingham and Mobile! View his press conference below. This is the greatest presser in the history of pressers!

Oh RBR Random Ten, Don't Let 'em Steal Your Heart Away
Since the iPod started us off right with a little Chuck Berry, I thought I'd post this clip from the amazing Hail! Hail! Rock N' Roll documentary of him performing Carol with Keith Richards and just generally being kind of a pain in the ass about the "right" way to play the opening lick. If you haven't seen that movie, you have to rent it this weekend if only for the hilarious and constant bickereing between Berry and Richards and the incredible "my, Keef is looking a healthy shade of blue today, isn't he?" drunken moment after the concert where Richards details how proud he is that Berry once punched him in the face and he didn't fall down. Just an amazingly revelatory documentary. I think I'm going to Best Buy tonight to pick up a copy....
1. Chuck Berry - Carol
2. Pat Green - Threadbare Gypsy Soul
3. John Hartford - Because of You
4. George Strait - You Look So Good in Love
5. Neko Case - Look For Me (I'll Be Around)
6. The Stanley Brothers - Orange Blossom Special
7. Miles Davis - Dr. Jackle
8. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - As Sure as the Sun
9. The Cure - Same Deep Water as You
10. Diana Krall - If I Had You
Update [2008-5-2 9:52:5 by Nico]:

Liars - "Plaster Casts of Everything"

I crashed out early last night and forgot to add my songs into this post. Today, we're having a double dose of bands from Alabama. One from yesteryear and one from today. First we go old school with The Louvin Brothers singing "Alabama." Then we kick things up with the Huntsville based surf rock band Daikaiju.

The Louvin Brothers - "Alabama"

Daikaiju - "Daikuju Die!

Update [2008-4-4 9:39:20 by Nico]:
Hopefully Todd won't mind me jumping in on this post, but I don't want to have two music posts on the main page. I'm now introducing "Nico's Pick of the Week." Some of you dug that last song I posted, some of you though it strange. Anyway, I'm going to start putting a tune a week on this post. Here's "Everybody" by Bassnectar, who is playing tonight at Zydeco in Birmingham.
=====
Now back to Todd's regularly scheduled post...

So I guess now is as good a time as any to post that picture of Jason Taylor the ladies (and apparently my iPod) have been hankering for:

The RBR Friday Random Ten is Morbidly Nostalgic
The top two videos are songs that I inexplicably loved as a child, so much so that whenever they are heard by my parents they still ask me if I remember walking around singing them as a youngster and how cute it was, while the bottom two are songs that I have stated on many occasions to many a person I want played at my funeral.
Anywho, y'all know how to play, so get cracking.
1. Kenny Rogers - Lucille
2. Fishbone - Sunless Saturday
3. Ryan Adams & the Cardinals - Sweet Illusions
4. Buddy Guy and Junior Wells - That's All Right
5. The Stanley Brothers - Angel Band
6. Van Morrison - Mule Skinner Blues
7. Elvis Presley - Peace in the Valley
8. B.J. Thomas - Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song
9. Led Zeppelin - I Can't Quit You Baby
10. Johnny Cash - Walking the Blues

Your RBR Friday Random Ten
It's that time again, kids, when we all get together and try to see who's musical tastes are the coolest and/or most embarassing. Mine? Eh. I'm fairly certain I haven't had a Random Ten this year without Johnny Cash, and we all know how cool consistency is, but other than that it's a fairly bland mix. It does, however, give me an excuse to post a block of Sonny Boy Williamson YouTubes, so I have that going for me, which is nice.
1. Johnny Cash - Where We'll Never Grow Old
2. Creedence Clearwater Revival - Who'll Stop the Rain?
3. Randy Travis - Is it Still Over?
4. Queen - Tie Your Mother Down
5. Smashing Pumpkins - Thru the Eyes of Ruby
6. Sonny Boy Williamson - Bye Bye Bird
7. Metallica - Master of Puppets
8. Stanley Brothers - Uncle Pen
9. Eric Clapton - I Shot the Sheriff
10. The Queers - Hi Mom, It's Me!

Your RBR Friday Random Ten
For those of you that don't know how to play, put your iPod/iTunes/Zune/whatever on shuffle and list the first ten songs that come up in the comments. No cheating to make yours look cooler, so if that copy of Touch My Body "your girlfriend downloaded on your laptop" comes up, be prepared for some merciless ridicule.
