What to Watch: Week One (part 2 of 5)

This is part 2 of "What to Watch: Week One." I'm counting down the 10 games I think are the most worthy to be watched in Week One of the season. Part 1 can be found here.

at

8. Memphis at Ole Miss
Sunday, September 3 - 3:30 p.m.
ESPN

Oxford and Memphis are only 85 miles apart and this game lands on the list because it is a rivalry game. While the Rebels own the rivalry (43-10-2), four of Memphis' ten wins against Ole Miss have come in the last decade and five of the last ten meetings have been settled by a touchdown or less. After losing their starting QB for the season on their first offensive play of last year's meeting, Memphis still only lost by four points. It should be a close one.

7. Southern Miss at Florida
Saturday, September 2 - 5:00 p.m.
TBA

Even though no TV time is announced yet, I can't imagine this one won't be televised nationally. Alabama's games against Southern Miss were frequently televised and Florida is a much bigger TV market than Alabama.

All eyes are on Urban Meyer as he enters his second season in charge of the Gators. Meyer led Utah to a 12-0 record and a BCS bowl bid his second year in the program and many are expecting a similar "miracle" at Florida. The Gators, however, have a pretty rough schedule and it may be unrealistic to expect such lofty heights so early. In a six week stretch Florida faces Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Georgia.

It'll be interesting to see if wunderkind Tim Tebow makes an appearance late in the game or if Chris Leak will lead the charge from start to finish.

(Games 5 & 6 of Week One will be posted tomorrow...and yes, there are several games on the list not involving SEC teams.)
