Five Games Left: Ranking the Hate

People automatically assume that year in and year out that Auburn and Tennessee rank #1 and #2 respectively on the list of teams that Alabama fans (and presumably players and coaches) most want to beat. While this has been more or less true historically, I think the last few years have seen greater fluctuations in hate than have previously existed. With that in mind, I will rank the remaining five games in the order that winning them is important to me. Feel free to chime in with your own list in the comments.

1. Auburn: A mere two years ago, Auburn didn't hold their historical top spot. 2005 found me and the majority of Crimson Tide fans wanting to beat Tennessee more than Auburn. While I obviously want to beat Auburn every year, if I could only have one, I got the one I wanted in '05. Unsurprisingly, after losing five in a row to The Barn, they are #1 on my hate list once again. The normal Auburn hate has been ratcheted up lately with the incredibly absurd claim from Auburn that they should be undefeated at this point. They could very well be 4-3 at this point so I have to laugh at that asinine claim. I have to tip my hat to Tuberville and co. for getting the ship back on course, but they played like complete and total crap the first three weeks and "should be" undefeated about as much as Alabama at this point.

2. LSU: I'm sure there will be a time in the near future when LSU seizes the #1 spot, but they aren't there quite yet. If we weren't on an 0-5 run against Auburn, they probably would hold the #1 position. They've got a solid lock on #2 though courtesy of the complete douchebaggery of Les Miles. Miles' "f@#$ing Alabama" comment is definitely playing to the crowd, or at least the portion of the LSU fan base that now has an irrational hatred of Saban. The truth of the matter though is it is probably more reflective of the widely circulated idea that Miles is only winning because of Saban's recruiting, something I'm sure gets thoroughly under Miles' skin.

3. Mississippi State: C'mon, can you seriously stomach the thought of losing to Mississippi State two years in a row? It's something that's only happened on four occasions (three of which occurred pre-1960) and the two schools have played 91 times. On a personal note, the 2006 game against Mississippi State was the first time I ever saw the Tide lose in person so they are now the owners of a special brand of my disdain.

4. Tennessee: I'm pretty shocked that Tennessee has managed to slip to #4 this season, but there they are. It's probably less a function of them slipping as much as it is other schools giving us more reason to hate. Don't be alarmed folks, this situation is purely temporary.

5. Louisiana-Monroe: Can you actually hate Louisiana-Monroe? Not really, so they're here by default. They are easily the least hateable team on our schedule this year by a mile. "What about Western Carolina," you might be asking. I'm still holding a grudge against them for being the other team on the field when Brodie Croyle hurt his knee in 2004. Irrational? Absolutely...but that's what being a sports fan is all about.

Hate
I can say one thing about the hate rankings. In my opinion #1 should be Miss St simply because, honestly, can we live with ourselves after loosing again to the "Crumies"? No i did not think so. Everyone hates auburn. However, since i live in tennessee and have to deal with this UT sh*t everyday of my life, i pray for 364 days a year that we beat the piss out of UT.

Suprisingly, I agree
As a diehard Bama alumnus that left Tuscaloosa to pursue more school at UT, I have long hated the Voles.  But, now that I am back in Alabama and my neighbors are Barn alumni I would put AU on the top of my list too.  Mainly because we cannot continue to let them dominate us.  Once we get our W this year, UT will regain that spot for me.  I also agree with LSU and State above UT, but I think I would reverse the order.  We cannot lose to MSU again, but a loss to LSU is probable and it won't make my blood boil to lose to the coon asses this year.
I wouldn't piss off the boys from Alabama . . .

comer4tide, how about this.
Try being a student at UT that was too proud to not wear crimson.  Constant dirty looks.  I did teach courses there so my students knew to keep their mouths shut.  Of course I was there when UT was the worst team in the state (Memphis went to a bowl and Vandy beat them) and Bama went 10-2.  That was a good year for a Bama man in Knoxville.

i hate ut, i hear you
tennessee is a shit state. the only good thing to come out of it is Jack Daniels. i hear it everyday and everywhere i go. I wear my crimson out and have the plates on my truck. My alabama flag flighs high outside my house. i had my yard rolled after tennessee beat us last year the note in my mailbox said we rolled your ass. Wow tennessee fans are original. so i feel your pain, the dirty looks are shared, and the smartass comments have all be heard. But at the end of the day, i just look at them and thank god that my coach dont look like a pumpkin

So I was
In City Grocery on the Square after the game Saturday, and it was creeping towards midnight.  There were a couple of guys in there wearing Bama shirts and hats.  As you do, I invited the (less staggering) one over and offered to buy him and his buddy a drink, with a hearty Roll Tide.

The guy winked at me, and leaned in to stage whisper "I'm not really an Alabama fan--my wife works for Alabama, so I have to wear all this."  I had no idea what to say--then, to my complete and utter horror and disdain, he lifted his shirt and OMG OMG ORANGE AND WHITE T-SHIRT UNDERNEATH--

I literally recoiled, as did the Ole Miss fans around me.  The guy was a Tennessee fan, and the stench of evil was palpable in the night.

A Vols fan in Tide clothing.  Truly repugnant.

Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world.

Heck No. UT and Auburn are tied. No one else
is even in the top 5.  I LSU would be 6.

Georgia does not show up.

I hate Nutt of course; but, only because he seems to play us so well.

I would include the Florida teams of the 90s and possibly the Sherrill teams but for now it is all about UT and the Barn.

isn't it funny how the barners are like that...
They looked like the worst team in the SEC for 3 straight weeks and then beat a florida team that thought the barn wasn't going to show up and ran tebow up the middle 3 times each possession and now they are national title contenders. that retard over at track'em tigers (who i am assuming is supposed to have a clue since he runs the blog) actually said the following:

"The voters in both national polls have lost their mind. First, USC loses to Stanford and drops six spots in the Coaches Poll and now LSU falls only four spots after losing to Kentucky. Meanwhile, Auburn wins three straight (including two on the road in the SEC) and barely breaks the top 20. Is there really an Auburn bias? I used to say no, now I'm not so sure."

Number 1: Dude, do you forget that for the first three weeks of the season the barn looked like the cow patty pile they are?? Going on the road to beat a Florida team that obviously didn't show up does not an undefeated season make!

Number 2: Uhhh... Do you not see the difference between Kentucky and Stanford? I mean come on bro, Do you have a clue or have you watched or paid attention to anything other than tubby's ears and muschamp jumping around on the sideline like a monkey? Kentucky would beat Stanford by 50 on a bad night.

I am glad that this here blog isn't totally stooopid like your "buddy" over there and while being biased will still try to be relevant and have some since of reality.

Hate...Hate...Hate..
Auburn has to be number one, but as long as the fat pumpkin is at UT they will always be a close 2nd.  I don't particularly care about most of the other ones that much, though I do think it is funny how much LSU hates Alabama now.  I agree, Miles is a joke.

I believe if Alabama was to lose to MSU Croom would have won 4 straight wins against teams from the state of Alabama (UA, AU, and UAB).  That would be scary!

There is no hate,
like hatred for the vols. From their notable and oft-commented lack of intact dentition, to the swill they call whiskey; from the felons cum "student-athletes" to Paul F'in Finebaum; from Roy Kramer's patronage to the Vol Army; for every little lucky bounce on the field and willful blindness by the national media and the ncaa, from their stupid freakin' dog and their redneck-ass coonskins and that atrocious prison-orange, and their ugly ass stadium...

There is no hatred, like hatred for the vols. HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE

Maybe you forgot 5 years probation hell
brought on by Fat Phil the Weasle.

When I was a child, the 80 year old man next door would literally taunt me as we both listened to the Bama-UT radio broadcasts in our respective backyards.  I have never forgotten the cruelty of UT fans!!!

I did the last laugh as I once nailed him with bottle rocket out of my bathroom window and he died without seeing the end of our 12 year dominance.

Revision Fat Phil #1
Bama nation cannot forget that Phil wrote the NCAA offering to PERSONALLY tape record conversations with recruits & their families to nail Bama!  He must go down!

Even when Phil exceeds the elasticity of his skin and explodes,  UT will still be our #1 rival.

The image of Peyton Mannings on top of the ladder leading the UT band in Rocky Top on our home field is seered in my mind. I would have paid everything I owned to see a whiskey bottle pierce his skull and send him toppling to the turf.
