This just came across the wires...
[editor's note, by Todd] Bumped from the diaries. Personally, the chances of this being even remotely valid are slim at best, but since it's the latest coaching rumor and it involves Coach Saban (again), might as well put it out here for everyone to see.

Now, this would thoroughly piss me off, however it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I think we have a lot of potential with Saban, it's just a matter of whether or not he has the patience to get his recruits in there (i.e. 2 or 3 more season)
Someone please make me feel better about this...
Update [2007-12-17 19:10:27 by Todd]:
Don't worry folks, there's no way WVU would hire Saban when Terry Bowden is itching for the job:
Bowden, who grew up in Morgantown when his father, Bobby, was Mountaineers coach and played at West Virginia, has been out of coaching since 1998. Not long after Rich Rodriguez left the Mountaineers to take the Michigan job, Bowden, the former Auburn coach, let it be known he's interested in the West Virginia vacancy."I made a full commitment to get back into coaching almost two years ago. Coming home to West Virginia would obviously be the dream job for me," Bowden, a college football analyst on radio and for Yahoo! Sports, said in a statement released by his publicist.

Why?
WV has been very fortunate in that they were able to get both Slaton and White to come there when no one was recruiting either of them for their current positions. They are both leaving for the NFL.

Also, all the things you're saying about Saban, yeah, West Virginia fans were saying about Rich Rodriguez. Except, he didn't lose to Louisiana-Monroe.

I think perhaps Saban is as interested...
For several hours (if not days) in December of 2006, the wikipedia entry for Steve Spurrier identified him as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.
God, love/hate the internet!

REALLY....
I am willing to bet SABAN is not happy, but it has nothing to do with Tuscaloosa. It has to do with him not having enough talent to compete on a consistent basis. The staff is fixing that problem as we speak.
Once the wins start rolling in, SABAN and family will be feeling just fine.
There is no better place than Tuscaloosa, Alabama when you are leading the TIDE to victory.
