SEC Baseball Week in Review

Tuesday, March 13th thru Sunday, March 18th

Western Division

15-8
(2-1)
Wed 3/14 Bama 3 at Samford 4
Fri 3/16 Bama 9 vs Tennessee 7
Sat 3/17 Bama 9 vs Tennessee 1
Sun 3/18 Bama 7 vs Tennessee 8

After dropping one in Birmingham on Wednesday (making it five losses out of their last six games), the Tide rebounded to open SEC play, taking a the weekend series with Tennessee (boo! hiss!) 2-1. Even though Vol Terry has been banned, I'm sure he wouldn't have had anything to say about it to us Bammers anyway. Mississippi Valley State visits Sewell-Thomas Tuesday and Wednesday before the Tide heads back out on the road to continue their conference slate in Oxford.

16-6
(2-1)
Tue 3/13 Arkansas 10 vs Oral Roberts 2
Fri 3/16 Arkansas 10 at Kentucky 2
Sat 3/17 Arkansas 5 at Kentucky 7
Sun 3/18 Arkansas 14 at Kentucky 5

The Hogs handed Kentucky their first loss of the season in Lexington Friday night and took the series on Sunday to open SEC play. They'll take the field again Wednesday, traveling to Shreveport to face Centenary, before welcoming Vandy to Fayetteville over the weekend.

18-6
(0-3)
Tue 3/13 Auburn 3 vs VMI 7
Wed 3/14 Auburn 10 vs VMI 8
Fri 3/16 Auburn 3 at UGA 4
Sat 3/17 Auburn 2 at UGA 3
Sun 3/18 Auburn 2 at UGA 6

Sucks to be a Teagle this week. After splitting their two game mid-week series with VMI, Auburn was swept by rival Georgia in Athens. They get the week off before a likely rebound at home against the Florida Gators.

13-9
(1-2)
Tue 3/13 LSU 6 vs McNeese State 3
Fri 3/16 LSU 0 at South Carolina 5
Sat 3/17 LSU 6 at South Carolina 5
Sun 3/18 LSU 5 at South Carolina 9

It wasn't a good week for road teams in the SEC (wait, I thought basketball was over with...), as the other Tigers dropped two to the 'Cocks to lose their season opening series. They come home to Alex Box on Wednesday to face Southern Louisiana and welcome Kentucky over the weekend.

15-7
(1-2)
Tue 3/13 Ole Miss 14 at Arkansas State 1
Fri 3/16 Ole Miss 2 at Vandy 3
Sat 3/17 Ole Miss 6 at Vandy 1
Sun 3/18 Ole Miss 6 at Vandy 7

The Rebs handed Vandy their first loss of the season, but that's all they could do in Nashville as the Commodores took the series in dramatic fashion, rallying in the bottom of the ninth to win on Sunday. Ole Miss heads to Mobile on Tuesday for a date with South Alabama before welcoming the real Alabama to Oxford over the weekend.

12-4
(2-1)
Wed 3/14 State 8 at Dallas Baptist 11
Fri 3/16 State 12 at Florida 9
Sat 3/17 State 8 at Florida 10
Sun 3/18 State 14 at Florida 13

After their match with UT-Arlington was rained out Tuesday, the Bulldogs dropped one in Dallas before taking their series with Florida 2-1 in Gainesville. They'll host the Bulldogs of Samford on Wednesday before welcoming the 'Cocks to Starkville for the weekend.

Eastern Division

11-12
(1-2)
Tue 3/13 Florida 5 vs Army 3
Fri 3/16 Florida 9 vs Mississippi State 12
Sat 3/17 Florida 10 vs Mississippi 8
Sun 3/18 Florida 13 vs Mississippi State 14

The Gators crept closer to .500 this week, notching a win over Army (why do they hate America?) on Tuesday and taking Saturday's game against Mississippi State before dropping the series by one run on Sunday. They travel to DeLand, FL (where?) to take on Stetson (seriously, where?) on Tuesday before visiting Auburn for the weekend.

8-11
(3-0)
Tue 3/13 UGA 1 vs Western Carolina 3
Fri 3/16 UGA 4 vs Auburn 3
Sat 3/17 UGA 3 vs Auburn 2
Sun. 3/18 UGA 6 vs Auburn 2

Much to The Mayor's delight, the Diamond Dawgs opened their conference schedule with a splash, sweeping #20 Auburn after a very less than lackluster start to the season. They'll host Mercer in Athens on Tuesday, before traveling to Knoxville (boo! hiss!) to continue conference play.

20-2
(1-2)
Tue 3/13 Kentucky 13 vs Canisius 2
Wed 3/14 Kentucky 12 vs Canisius 10
Fri 3/16 Kentucky 2 vs Arkansas 10
Sat 3/17 Kentucky 7 vs Arkansas 5
Sun 3/18 Kentucky 5 vs Arkansas 14

The 'Cats saw their perfect season go down the drain this weekend, dropping two to Arkansas over the weekend. They'll host Western Kentucky on Wednesday before traveling to Baton Rouge to continue conference play.

17-3
(2-1)
Tue 3/13 South Carolina 13 vs Appalachian State 5
Wed 3/14 South Carolina 4 vs Appalachian State 1
Fri 3/16 South Carolina 5 vs LSU 0
Sat 3/17 South Carolina 5 vs LSU 6
Sun 3/18 South Carolina 9 vs LSU 5

The 'Cocks welcomed LSU to Columbia over the weekend, taking the series 2-1, after downing Appy State twice during the week. They'll welcome UNC-Asheville on Tuesday before hitting the road for a Wednesday date with Wofford and a series in Starkville.

13-9
(1-2)
Wed 3/14 Tennessee 10 vs Morehead State 9
Fri 3/16 Tennessee 7 at Alabama 9
Sat 3/17 Tennessee 1 at Alabama 9
Sun 3/18 Tennessee 8 at Alabama 7

The Vols (boo! hiss!) spoiled a Tide sweep Sunday, winning 8-7 in 10 innings to come home with a little something to show for their efforts. They'll welcome Wright State on Tuesday before continuing conference play against the visiting Georgia Bulldogs.

21-1
(2-1)
Tue 3/14 Vandy 15 at Belmont 7
Fri 3/16 Vandy 3 vs Ole Miss 2
Sat 3/17 Vandy 1 vs Ole Miss 6
Sun 3/18 Vandy 7 vs Ole Miss 6

The 'Dores showed a flare for the dramatic this weekend, taking their conference opening series with Ole Miss two games to one with a come from behind victory on Friday (in the 10th, no less) and Sunday (in the bottom of the ninth). The Rebs did spoil their perfect season, though, taking Saturday's game 6-1. They'll welcome Western Kentucky to Nasvhille Tuesday before hitting the road for a series with Arkansas.
