New Poll: Favorite SEC Road Trip

Our friends over at Dawg Sports recently had a poll question asking what SEC town/stadium besides their own was their favorite to visit. Jacksonville won for them, so maybe we should all take that as a cue to get our butts down there for the FSU game.

We can only set our polls for a maximum of 10 responses so that means one SEC town gets left out. In some ways, the obvious choice is Starkville (because I've heard fans of all SEC teams make fun of it), but I decided it belongs in our poll because it is physically the closest SEC town to Tuscaloosa. I opted to leave Fayetteville out of the poll since I've heard fans of almost all SEC teams complain about how far away it is and that many people skip it because of its remote location.

I've only been to games at three SEC stadiums besides BDS: Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State. I have been to a basketball game in Gainesville though. Of the remaining SEC cities, I've also visited Athens, Nashville, Oxford and Knoxville. I have not been to Lexington, Fayetteville and Columbia. I do plan on visiting all of them eventually.

We have five road games this year and our friend Tide Druid did a visitor's guide to each of the five that you can read here: Nashville, Jacksonville, Oxford, Starkville, Auburn.

I voted for...
...Baton Rouge by the way.

I had so much fun at the game I went to down there. It might not be so much fun next year though....

I voted for Nashville because, frankly
the only other cities I have been to are Gainesville and Knoxville, and the Bible forbids me to say anything nice about these modern-day Soddam and Gomorrah, lest I turn into a pillar of salt and ravens eat out me eyes!

I rather like...
...Gainesville. When I was living in Florida I went there a few times for sporting events and concerts. Had a blast every time.

Road Trip
Starkville?  What a hole!!  After going to Starkville, I never made fun of auburn again.  I'll never go back to Baton Rouge.  The people in Louisiana are wonderful people...until they get on LSU's campus.  It is DEFINITELY not a place to take children. That's some of the foulest mouth people I've ever been around. I was there in '92 and in '96- the year Shaun Alexander became a household name and a nightmare to other SEC teams. Knoxville?  Try obKnoxville!!  It's pretty but all of that orange makes you sick.  I voted for Oxford.  The Grove is beautiful and the people show the most hospitality in the South...other than T-town.  I really like Oxford and I look forward to going in October.  ROLL TIDE!!

I added...
...Starkville for the convenience factor. I went there for the MSU vs. South Carolina game last year and had a great time...even after I told people I was a Bama fan. :D They fed me some amazing chicken and gave me Lazy Magnolia Beer. Two good things in my book. Sure, it isn't the greatest city in the world...and I wouldn't want to liver there or anything but I had fun there.

Regarding Baton Rouge, I've never been treated better at a stadium. I heard all kinds of horror stories about how I would be treated, but I found the complete opposite to be true. Once again, I was fed by strangers and given beer...that goes a long way with me. :D I was also included in their group photos, I had attractive LSU girl give me her phone number. I had some great local cuisine. All while wearing head to toe Alabama gear.

Oddly enough, the rudest fans I've ever encountered? South Florida. I was at the game in '05 where they beat Louisville so badly. They were unmerciful to the Cardinal fans.

true and false
i always get treated great outside the stadium in b.r., but inside the stadium is a different story.  and i don't even wear my colors when i go to games. i simply cheer for my team.

screw every other place...
IN THE SEC.  There is one place I like to go on Saturdays, TITLE TOWN, nothing like Tuscaloosa on game day.  I know that I am not really answering the poll correctly, but I really do not enjoy going to away games much.  All other programs in the SEC try to creat an atmosphere, ALABAMA just naturally has the greatest atmosphere in all of sports.  ROLL TIDE ROLL.
I will give props to the ladies in Oxford, there is always some nice scenery at the grove, to bad they go to ole siss.
tubs sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's only six hours from Tuscaloosa...
Come to Columbia. Any time. Any game. It's actually better if Bama isn't playing Carolina. Say, the Georgia game, Florida or other major conference game is better.

The gigantic levels of tailgating and awesome atmosphere in Five Points the night before and night of the game is why I ended up there for two games last season.

There's a beautiful fatalism when your team is good enough to win, but will almost always lose the big games.
