Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Friday AM Links and Such

Since there was a noticeable lack of a "w00ts 1n73rnet5!!!111" post last night, you can probably guess that I still, in fact, do not have internet access at home. The good news is, though, that I'm finally getting a direct line to my apartment so signal strength should no longer be an issue. The bad news is they aren't going to do it until Monday. So enjoy one more post of nothing but links, and also the musical stylings of Porter Wagoner:

At least I'm not the only one with internet issues. Hack is suffering as well.

Tide Druid has the scoop on the medical condition that's kept Chris Lett from practicing since his arrival at Alabama. Meanwhile, Zeke Knight is back to full strength after having surgery to correct a heart murmur.

Cecil Hurt thinks the running backs need to "get hot":

When Saban took over the Alabama job, there were some positions -- mostly on defense -- where he didn't necessarily inherit a fully stocked cabinet of talent. Running back didn't appear to be one of those positions. The previous Tide staff had signed several running backs, and Saban added another (Demetrius Goode) in the February signing class.

Unexpected attrition has taken a toll. Jamar Taylor, who had enrolled in January, went through spring training but left due to personal issues. Goode suffered a serious knee injury on the first day of practice and is extremely unlikely to see action this season. That leaves four experienced players at the position.

Roy Upchurch has been wearing a black no-contact jersey in the Tide's early practices as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery.

Alabama's current roster has potential, although it is potential that will have to emerge quickly to match that list. Still, Saban seems to be looking.

Alabama is going to need some backs to step up. It's a hot opportunity. Or make that a "golden" opportunity, and perhaps for more than one individual.

I guess it's a good thing all the hype over Terry Grant is looking more and more warranted every day.

According to the Huntsville Times, Coach Saban has had some, um, interesting guest speakers talk to the team:

There was an expert on the dangers of drugs and alcohol who is associated with the New York Yankees.

"He was amazing," senior Wallace Gilberry said.

Another speaker, Gilberry said, is an ex-Mob boss.

DeNiro's recent career decisions would probably be enough to scare anyone straight.

Go check out the new(ish) blog Third Saturday in Blogtober. It's fittingly run by both Tide and Vol fans, so you'll have to wade threw some UT stories here and there, but they do have this amusing comic, so they've got that going for them, which is nice.

Hey Jenny Slater is running through Georgia's opponents, and yesterday he took a look at our own beloved Tide while also showing proper respect for Sela Ward.

Gentlemen, behold!

I've been meaning to link to this Houston Texans blog for awhile now because of it's awesome name "Da Good Da Bad and DeMeco," and this interesting tale of law talkin' and charitable donations from one of our favorite former linebackers is as good an excuse as any. (h/t Battle Red Blog)
