"He's plain poison when it comes to running back kick-offs." 1931 Rose Bowl: Crimson Tide At Pasadena For Big Game has this quote from when the Washington State coach first saw the team: "Gosh, they look big". 1931 Rose Bowl: Long Aerials Score Counters For Dixie has this interesting quote: "If there was a better football player on the field than Freddie Sington, the big Alabama tackle, he kept his light under a bushel." 1931 Rose Bowl: Alabama Equal of Nation’s Best proclaims "Alabama's Crimson Tide rolled up alongside of Notre Dame today to take its place as one of the two greatest football teams of the 1930 season."
