University of Alabama right fielder Kent Matthes has been named 2009 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday on the eve of the league’s annual post-season tournament at Hoover’s Regions Park.
Matthes was also named first-team All-SEC and was joined on the first team by four teammates — sophomore second baseman Ross Wilson, sophomore shortstop Josh Rutledge, junior third baseman Jake Smith and senior right-hander Austin Hyatt.
