A nice pre-season overview of the Blue Devils in the Winston Salem paper (there's one in the Raleigh paper as well). Duke, as you probably are aware, will host the Crimson Tide on Sept. 18 and head coach David Cutcliffe is an Alabama grad (class of '76). One interesting piece of info here is that Duke is fielding a very young team; almost two thirds of the scholarship players are underclassmen.
With just about everyone putting their plans together to head back to T-town for the big matchup with Penn State on Sept. 11, it's easy to overlook the fact there's a contest the week prior as well.
The San Jose State held their spring game last Thursday and the story linked above is the assessment of the team by the San Jose Mercury News' Jon Wilner. From the report, first-year coach Mike MacIntyre (formerly the DC at Duke under David Cutcliffe who we'll get to see in Durham on Sept 18) will have an uphill battle getting four wins out of next season.
The Spartans are not likely to be a serious threat to the Crimson Tide but they are the first test of the 2010 squad in the campaign to defend the national title. It's worth getting familiar with this opponent at least to better assess Alabama's performance in the season opener.
