Tuesday Evening Crimson Tide News

Sorry the updates are coming in so late today, but I had a six hour orientation to attend today. Anyway, onto today's news...

  • Alabama will be hosting the Super Regional against North Carolina as expected. It's a best of three series against the Tarheels who utterly destroyed everyone in their regional by a combined score of 43-13 over three games. Alabama will be up against quality pitching seeing as two Tarheel pitchers were drafted in the first round of the MLB draft today.

Game times for the Super Regional:

    06/09 - 6:00 p.m.
    06/10 - 6:00 p.m.
    06/11 - 3:00 p.m. (if necessary)

All chairback seats at Sewell-Thomas Stadium are sold out already. Bleacher seating is available for purchase here.

  • Also in baseball, three Bama players were taken in today's MLB draft. Pitcher Wade LeBlanc and catcher Kody Valverde were both drafted by the San Diego Padres and pitcher David Robertson was selected by the New York Yankees.
  • Saftey Chris Keys and cornerback Travis Robinson are no longer part of the Crimson Tide football team. Keys was dismissed by Coach Mike Shula and Robinson left the team on his own. Both players are sophomores.

    (L-R): Chris Keys, Travis Robinson

I wish both young men the best of luck in the future. I always hate to see a situation unfold where a coach feels he must dismiss a player from the team.

  • In recruiting news, Will Blackwell, a 6'4", 290 pound defensive tackle from Louisiana is seriously considering Alabama. Others schools interested in Blackwell are Auburn, Notre Dame, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
"I hear a lot of good things about Coach Shula. I have been [to Tuscaloosa.] They have a nice place and facilities. I also have some family in Tuscaloosa."

  • Since one of the most popular search strings directing people to this site is "Bryant-Denny Stadium expansion photos," I decided to snap one with my cameraphone for y'all today as I was driving by the stadium. Oh yeah, what kind of looks like a gigantic crack just to the left of the new windows and brickworks is actually a crane. It blends into the clouds and looks weird in the photo. It looks just fine in person though.

The new entrance is almost ready
