Gone Bowling: The Sun Belt

Getting In

Troy
5-2 (4-0)

The other Trojans are currently pegged by CBS as the Sun Belt champions, putting them in the New Orleans Bowl against C-USA's Central Florida. At Arkansas State, at Georgia, at Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, and Florida Atlantic round out the schedule, with only Geogia and FAU looking like serious competition.

Hoping to Get In

Florida Atlantic
4-3 (3-0)

The Sun Belt has only one guaranteed bowl berth, but last year managed to place both Troy and MTSU in bowl games. FAU, currently tied with Troy for the conference lead, and just as a good a chance as the Trojans of running the rest of their conference slate, is hoping to get an at large selection. La-Monroe, Arkansas State, at Florida, at FIU and at Troy remain, and only Florida and Troy look like loseable games for the Owls. Seven wins doesn't guarantee them a spot, though, so winning out in conference play and beating Troy for the league title is probably necessary. CBS does not predict a bowl bid for the Owls.

Staying Home

Middle Tennessee State
3-5 (2-1)

Counting the Blue Raiders out might be a little premature, with a trip to North Texas, at La Monroe, La Lafayette, and at Troy rounding out the schedule. The next three are winable, but they'll need to knock of conference favorite Troy to get the crucial seventh win, and that just isn't going to happen. They could easily reach 6 wins, but that just won't be enough.

La.-Monroe
2-5 (2-2)

The Warhawks have a good shot at reaching six wins as well, with at FAU, MTSU, Grambling (1AA), at Alabama, and at La.-Lafayetter remaining, but they likely won't be making it.

Arkansas State
3-4 (1-2)

The Indians (how has the NCAA not come down on them yet?) are sitting at 3 wins, and have a remaining schedule that reads Troy, FIU, at FAU, North Texas, and at Southern Miss. Carvinb out three wins there is possible, but unlikely, and grabbing four to boost their odds for an invite as a seven win team is likely impossible.

North Texas
1-6 (1-3)

The Mean Green were the scourge of the Sun Belt for awhile there, but their decline has been both severe and rapid. MTSU, Navy, at Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, and at FAU means they'll maybe get one more win on the year.

La.-Lafayette
1-7 (1-3)

The Ragin' Cajuns's sole win of the season was over the aforementioned Mean Green, so they have that going for them, which is nice. At Tennessee, at MTSU, at FIU, and bitter rivals La.-Monroe finish up the schedule so 1-11 is entirely possible.

Florida International
0-7 (0-3)

The Golden Panthers are winless so far, and with a remaining schedule that reads at Arkansas, at Arkansas State, La-Lafayette, FAU, and North Texas, 0-12 is possible.
