For all those that excoriated Alabama for firing Shula...

...I hope you have some venom reserved for San Diego president Dean Spanos, who fired Marty Schottenheimer after he led the Chargers to a 14-2 record.

"14-2 isn't 6-6!"

Citing a "dysfunctional" relationship between Schottenheimer and general manager A.J. Smith, Spanos decided to fire the veteran coach after he and Smith butted heads over who the next defensive co-ordinator should be.

"Events of the last month have now convinced me that it is not possible for our organization to function at a championship level under the current structure. On the contrary, and in the plainest possible language, we have a dysfunctional situation here. Today, I am resolving that situation once and for all," said Spanos, who a year ago told both Smith and Schottenheimer to put their personal issues aside.

Now, with Schottenheimer gone, San Diego finds itself in the position of not only replacing the head coach, but also their OC (Cam Cameron replaced Nick Saban at Miami), DC (Wade Phillips replaced Bill Parcells in Dallas) and assistants Greg Manursky and Rob Chudzinski.  And you thought the college coaching carousel was a wild ride.
