Your "Not Just a Football School" Update...

...courtesy the Golf, Baseball, and Softball teams.

The Golf Team shot one under par yesterday to maintain their lead in the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational.  This year's team has tied the 1972 team for the most single season tournament championships in school history, and has a chance to have the winningest season of any Tide golf team when they head to the Puerto Rico Classic Sunday.  You can go here to watch a video clip of golfweek.com's "Around Campus" feature on the Tide.

Congratulations to sophomore outfielder Kent Mathes, the SEC Baseball Player of the Week.

Matthes hit .412 (7-for-17) and cracked four home runs and 10 RBI in four games last week for the Crimson Tide ... He wrapped up the week with a 1.275 slugging percentage and a .412 on-base mark and scored six runs ... He also had three highlight-reel catches in right field this past week.

In seven games this season, Matthes is batting .414 (12-for-29) with four home runs and 14 RBI ... He is the only UA player with at least one hit in all seven games this season.

Congratulations also go to Brittany Rogers, the SEC Softball Player of the Week

She was named Hampton Inn BAMA BASH! Tournament MVP after hitting .647 (11-of-17) with six runs and seven RBI (all team-highs) to go with five stolen bases. She became the first player in Alabama history to hit inside-the-park home runs from both the left and right side of the plate, accomplishing the feat in back-to-back days on the weekend. Her 11 hits were one shy of the tournament record. She also had a double for a slugging pct. of 1.059.
