TideSports.com is reporting that Jimmy Barnes will be leaving the Crimson Tide and transferring to a D-1AA school in the fall. Makes sense, since he'll probably be third string at best the rest of his career, isn't the type of QB coach Saban's staff is looking for ("athletic" is hardly the term I'd use to describe Barnes's mobility), and will likely see significant playing time and won't have to sit out a year by transferring down to 1-AA. His departure leaves the Tide with only two scholarship QBs on the roster, though the arrival of Nick Fanuzzi in the fall will get Alabama back to three.
Barnes played in only one game while at Alabama, a relief effort against FIU after JP sustained an ankle injury, and threw 6 of 11 for 54.5 yards and 1 TD. While I can't say we'll miss Barnes, I for one wish him the best of luck wherever he lands.
Maybe he'll wind up in Florida...
