I Wanna SEC You Up: The Mississippi State Schedule

Date Opponent Prediction
08/30 vs State has lost 7 straight SEC openers, and after this year the total will be 8. 0-1.
09/08 at The Green Wave are one of only four imminently winnable games on the schedule this season, though that was the case last year and State still managed to fall short despite a second half rally. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this year, though. 1-1.
09/15 at State hasn't scored against Auburn since 2004. They'll probably get a TD or two this year, but not a win. 1-2.
09/22 vs There was that embarassing loss to Maine in year one of the Croom experience, but since then he hasn't managed to drop any games to 1-AA opponents. 2-2.
09/29 at Could be an exciting game offense wise, but I don't see the Bulldog D making enough plays to keep a Spurrier offense in check this year. 2-3.
10/06 vs UAB upset the Bulldogs last time they visited Starkville, but the core talent from the Blazer teams of the past few years is gone, leaving the new coaching staff a bunch of no names and underperformers to work around. I hate to say it, but 3-3.
10/13 vs There's just too much talent on the Vol offense for State to stop, especially if UT lines up and runs the ball right down their throats. 3-4.
10/20 at Speaking of lining up and running the ball... 3-5.
10/27 at State pushed the 'Cats to the limit last year, and I think they'll get the best of them this season. 4-5.
11/10 vs Revenge. Sweet (drunken?) revenge. 4-6.
11/10 at I'm going out on a limb with this one. I think the Hawgs are in for a rough season, and State should have won last year if it weren't for some bad special teams errors. 5-6.
11/10 vs The Egg Bowl is in Starkville this year, and the Rebels are still a few years away from fielding a good team under the Orgeron. 6-6.

So that's a 6-6 pick for the Bulldogs, though the Arkansas pick is a stretch. Still, this team will likely beat somebody that it shouldn't (let's just hope it's not us again) to get bowl eligible. Tomorrow the guys from Hail Dear Ole State and The Mississippi State Sports Blog will be by to give their thoughts on the coming season.
