Where to now?

We'll probably hear something on who the new OC is very shortly considering Applewhite's departure came during a heavy recruiting period, and the Birmingham News has a few names to share:

Saban is expected to look at several coaches he considered before Applewhite's hiring. That list included Louisville offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm, Southern Cal offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Tom Clements. Among the longshot candidates are Georgia Southern head coach Chris Hatcher and Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, who was fired this week.

Saban also could promote UA offensive line coach Joe Pendry, who was heavily involved in preparing the game plan each week.

As for Pendry? Please no. The last thing this team needs is another NFL minded, risk averse play caller. I can understand why Saban would lean on him this past season since he's kind of like Spurrier in reverse (doesn't care about the offense so long as it's working) and wanted to give someone who does focus on that side of the ball that he trusts a measure of authority, but at the same time, if he's going to name him OC now then why didn't he just do that to start with before bringing in Applewhite? Anyway, personal preference? Jeff Brohm. Could you imagine running Louisville's offense at Alabama? So can I, and it kind of made me a little teary eyed...
