Mike Marrow Commits

We have more good news on the recruiting front this evening as several sources are reporting that Mike Marrow has committed to Alabama.

For those of you who don't follow recruiting, Marrow is a bruising 6'2 and 240 pound running back / linebacker recruit out of Toledo, Ohio. Scout.com thinks he'll end up at fullback -- where he is one of the highest rated fullback recruits in the country -- but many think he could play linebacker as well.

However, Coach Saban wants him to play as a power tailback, and watching his highlight videos it's hard to complain. He doesn't have top-end speed, but he's an absolutely punishing runner with a good short-yardage burst. Regardless of where he will end up, Marrow represents yet another highly-touted player with a good deal of both size and athleticism, and someone who can play multiple positions. Like many other commitments, he is the epitome of a Saban recruit.

In gaining his commitment, Alabama edged out both Penn State and Nebraska. The Cornhuskers, in particular, wanted him very hard. Marrow's father, Vince Marrow, was a close friend of Bo Pelini in high school, so there was a family connection in Lincoln. On the other hand, however, Marrow's father had played under Coach Saban back when he was at Toledo, so he had ties to Alabama as well.

Either way, at the end of the day Alabama won out, and picked up yet another very exciting prospect. Roll Tide and welcome aboard, Mike!
