...is 70% creeping me out.
1. Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper
The part near the end where they get all "she had become like they are..." just gives me the willies for some reason. |
2. The Band - It Makes No Difference
3. Neko Case - Dirty Knife
The whole song has some disturbing imagery, but once they get into the chanting near the end (around the 2:05 mark in this video), I just can't even listen to it. This is a live version, so it isn't quite as bad, but the one from the album is terrifying. |
It's not necessarily this song that creeps me out, but the whole album. About five years ago I went through this phase where I would listen to a CD to go to sleep instead of watching the TV, which didn't really work too well since I had fitful sleep for a good month before giving it up. One of the reasons was my selection of EVOL, which baffles me to this day. Anyway, I put it in my stereo and drifted off to sleep, but, as you could imagine, the very menacing tone really screwed with my mind, and I'd doze off but start having really weird dreams and would wake up convinced that something bizarre was happening in my apartment but I couldn't tell if I was awake or asleep and it was just really messed up. I haven't been able to listen to the album since. |
5. Bruce Springsteen - Backstreets
6. Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown
I don't remember if this was just a big hit when I was a kid or if my mom was a Gordon Lightfoot fan or what, but I remember being absolutely terrified of this song. Funnily, it's one of my favorite songs now, but as a child the idea of someone creeping 'round back steps was the stuff of nightmares. |
WARNING: NSFW Lyrics |
I don't particularly care for this song (it does have one of my favorite ODB lines, though; "who the F*#^ wants to be an mc, if you can't get PAAAAIIIIDDDD to be a f*^$in mc?"), but when he screams "some blooooooood" (about the 1:45 mark), it's just creepy. |
8. Whiskeytown - Reasons to Lie
9. Lou Christie - Lightnin' Strikes
I'm pretty sure this song is about a rapist. "If she's giving me the sign that she wants to make time (STOP!), I can't stop (STOP!), I CAN'T STOP!" No means no, Lou Christie. |
10. Faith Hill - Cry
It's just creepy how much I like this song. |
Anyway, now that you've gotten a painful glimpse into my tortured psyche, take your iPod/Zune/Whatever and put it on shuffle and then list the first ten songs that come up in the comments section. No fair cheating to make yours extra cool.
