According to the Tuscaloosa News, Curt Cignetti has emerged as the leading candidate at Kent State:
As Kent State's search for a head football coach narrows, University of Alabama wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Curt Cignetti has emerged as a leading candidate for the job and has made two visits to the school, sources close to the search told The Tuscaloosa News.
It is unclear whether Cignetti has been extended an offer to take over the Mid-American Conference program.
That article also makes it clear that the Kent State AD has spoken directly with Saban, and I have no doubt that he gave Cignetti his full recommendation. Things could fall through, but for now it looks like Cignetti is headed for Kent State.
The interesting kicker here is going to be who, if anyone, Cignetti may take with him. Obviously we wouldn't have anything to worry about with Jim McElwain, Kirby Smart, or Joe Pendry -- and the same probably goes for Bobby Williams and Sal Sunseri, too -- but it could provide an opportunity for someone like Burton Burns, Bo Davis, or Jeremy Pruitt to get a job as a coordinator, so it will be interesting to see if Cignetti brings anyone with him if this all goes as expected.
