Tuscaloosa News: Fluid Situation, but Smart Leaning Towards Staying

New, 25 comments

Some good news on Kirby Smart. Per Tommy Deas of the Tuscaloosa News:

The University of Florida defensive coordinator position is Kirby Smart's to turn down, but he is leaning toward staying at Alabama, a source close to the situation told The Tuscaloosa News late Monday night.

Smart, defensive coordinator at the University of Alabama for the last three seasons, and new Florida head coach Will Muschamp have been in discussions about the position in recent days, multiple sources say. It is not known if Muschamp has made a formal offer that includes financial terms, but the job is Smart's if he wants it.

If nothing else, take it as a positive that Smart is still hitting the recruiting trails for 'Bama like everything is normal moving forward. Surely we'll get an official clarification one way or the other in the next day or two, but at least for now it seems like the recent developments are trending towards Smart turning down the overtures from Will Muschamp.
