There is not a great deal of information out there just yet on the specifics, but nevertheless Shannon Brown has committed to Alabama. Brown is a middle linebacker prospect out of Adel, Georgia -- in the deep southern part of the state, near the Florida line -- and comes in at about 6'2 and 240 pounds. Though he plays both tailback and linebacker in high school, not surprisingly, given his physical build, we have recruited him to play inside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme.
All in all, Brown is likely to be one of the top players in the state of Georgia in 2011. The raw talent on his part is obvious, as evidenced by an offer list that includes the likes of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. He has had some character problems in the past that have dampened his stock -- nothing criminal or otherwise sinister, but apparently just a tad bit lazy -- but as is usually the case with the ol' Nicktator in charge, I doubt that will be an issue.
At the end of the day, you really have to be excited about this pick-up. Our successes in the state of Georgia continues to grow, and at this point we can safely say it has turned into a bona fide recruiting pipeline (and I can assure you, more high-end talent from the state of Georgia will follow in the 2011 class). Moreover, you do have to excited about the raw talent with Brown in particular. The mere fact that we'll take his commitment given the likely small size of the 2011 class should tell you how highly Saban and company think of his abilities. Mix that with an offer list filled with powerhouse programs, and you can safely assume that you have added one hell of a player to the fold. From everything I've read on this young man, the sky is the proverbial limit.
Brown comes the third commitment of the 2011 class for Alabama.
