After decades at the helm in Happy Valley, the Joe Paterno era is officially over, and the last active connection to the era of Bear Bryant and Woody Hayes is now no more. The Penn State Board of Trustees has just announced that both Paterno and university president Graham Spanier have been relieved of their duties effective immediately. Per Pete Thamel of the New York Times on Twitter:
The Penn State BOTs decide that Graham Spanier is no longer president and Joe Paterno is no longer head coach.
With Paterno out, Tom Bradley has been appointed as the interim head coach and will coach the team moving forward. Given the outcries of support from many students, things may get crazy in State College, and we'll update with any breaking news accordingly.
