LB Denzel Devall Commits to Alabama

Denzel Devall, a linebacker prospect out of Bastrop, Louisiana, has committed to the Crimson Tide. Per Scout.com:

Alabama head coach Nick Saban visited northeast Louisiana today and was rewarded with a commitment from Bastrop four-star DE Denzel Devall.

The nation's 27th-ranked defensive end, Devall narrowed his choices to Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M before choosing the Crimson Tide.

Devall is the relatively rare get out of the state of Louisiana that carries an LSU offer. He had been recruited early in the process primarily by Alabama and Texas A&M, but LSU offered him earlier this year and made the surge that you would expect, but ultimately Devall ended up choosing the Tide. Texas A&M had been a serious contender until the recent firing of Mike Sherman, which seemingly destroyed most interest Devall had in the Aggies, and the end it came down to an Alabama v. LSU battle.

The biggest selling point on Devall is his overall versatility. Weighing in at roughly 6'2 and 240 pounds, he can play at Jack, Mike, or at Will linebacker for the Tide, depending on where the staff chooses to place him. In fact, the versatility is such that several other programs actually recruited him as a 4-3 defensive end. Additionally, Devall has nearly a 4.0 core GPA, so qualifying academically will not be a concern.

Devall becomes the 22nd commitment of the 2012 recruiting class.
