UA Confirms Hiring of Mike Groh

The University of Alabama has confirmed that Mike Groh has been hired as wide receivers coach to replace Curt Cignetti. Per the Tuscaloosa News:

Mike Groh has been hired to replace Curt Cignetti on the University of Alabama football coaching staff. Groh, who was a graduate assistant under head coach Nick Saban at Alabama during the 2009 season, spent last season as quarterbacks coach at Louisville.
Cignetti served as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator on the Alabama staff, and Groh will fill both those roles. Groh has experience as a wide receivers coach, having begun his coaching career at Virginia as a wide receivers coach in 2001 and 2002. Groh also worked with receivers during his year as a graduate assistant at UA.

As I've written previously, Groh is a pretty solid hire and his ties to the mid-Atlantic area will help us sustain the recruiting successes that we have experienced there in the past two years. Having said that, given the lack of proven commodities at wide receiver and the absence of Julio Jones, the pressure will be on Groh to deliver on-field results immediately.
