Softball Drops NCAA Super Regional Opener, 5-2

The Alabama softball team dropped the opening game of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Super Regional to Stanford, 5-2, Thursday night at Rhoads Stadium. The loss is the first at home for the Crimson Tide this season as it moves to 49-9 on the year. Stanford (42-15) took advantage of a trio of Alabama errors and got a solid pitching performance from Teagan Gerhart. The sophomore allowed two runs on five hits while fanning eight to improve to 26-11 on the season. Alabama must win two games on Friday to advance. The "if necessary" game is slated for a 6 p.m. start and will be shown on ESPN2.

UPDATE: Alabama wins the second game of the series 10-0 in five innings.
