We haven't paid as much attention to softball this season as we usually do or even as much as they deserve. It's been a successful season by any stretch of the imagination, but a combination of real life, lazy, and not knowing enough about the game beyond "hooray we won!" to offer any actual insight about what's going on has kind of kept us from it. However, we're doing an open thread for this afternoon's game against the Florida Gators for two reasons:

1. Yesterday's win secured a share of the SEC Regular Season Title for Alabama. The Tide claimed the regular season crown outright the last two seasons, and a win today will lock down their third straight. Further, taking the crown from Florida will go a long way towards exorcising some of the program's past demons and give Patrick Murphy a nice signature series win after the offseason LSU drama. Florida has arguably been the team's greatest obstacle to finally getting over the hump and becoming a truly elite softball program, and in the wake of Murphy's short lived departure much of the discussion concerning hiring a replacement centered around Mal Moore flying out to Pac-12 country and attempting a Nick Saban level hire to finally push Alabama past the Gators as the premiere softball program in the SEC. Since that didn't happen, it's up to Murphy to prove he can take Alabama Softball to the next level.

2. It's on ESPNU so a majority of y'all can watch and comment.

Roll Tide.
