Alabama's special teams coverage units are thriving thanks to talent, speed, strategy | al.com

"I think we've done a better job in our coverage units this year, no doubt," Alabama coach Nick Saban said. "Kickoff coverage has been really good. We've got really good team speed on that unit. They get down the field. They've got a lot of pride in what they do."

Alabama lost its sellout streak last season against Western Carolina. The 56-game run began in 2004 before Bryant-Denny Stadium was expanded twice. A crowd of 101,126 fell short of the 101,821 capacity for that November, 2012 game. Click here for information or to buy tickets.

The Crimson White | Tide focuses on mental aspects of upcoming game

Alabama did not practice Monday, Sept. 30, Nick Saban announced in a noon press conference. Instead, the players focused on the mental aspects of the game in a walk-through, essentially giving them two days off after the Ole Miss game. But Saban said the Crimson Tide isn’t overlooking the Georgia State Panthers (0-4) and first-year head coach Trent Miles, who Alabama will host Saturday, Oct. 5, for the homecoming game. "We respect every opponent that we play, regardless of their record," Saban said. "[Georgia State] has talented players that can make plays. Our focus needs to be on what we need to do to improve as a team."

Alabama 25, Ole Miss 0: Tide Smothers Rebels - Team Speed Kills

This one was a game where Alabama basically just ground out a tough win, which really is news in and of itself. The Tide's run game had only one decent run before halftime, and it only got things moving there as the Ole Miss defense wore out. A.J. McCarron was not sharp at all, seldom completing anything that far up the field and finishing with a dismal 5.6 yards per pass with an INT and no TDs. His longest pass of the night was for just 17 yards. The Rebel defense put up a valiant effort, but with no help from the offense, it was never going to hold forever.

SEC Power Poll Ballot After Week 5 - Team Speed Kills

1. Alabama I'm still leaning toward LSU beating Alabama later this year, but it's close call between the top three teams, in part because I also think Alabama would beat Georgia. Which beat LSU, etc. And in fairness to Alabama, they answered one of the main questions I had about them at this point by blanking Ole Miss. So they're back in the No. 1 spot for now.
