SEC slates record eight teams in AP Top 25 - ESPN

The record for most teams from one conference in a regular-season poll had been seven, done many times, including this season by the SEC. The ACC and Big Ten have also reached seven ranked teams in season.

Alabama, A&M, LSU, UF, USCe, Auburn, Mizzou, Georgia...

I hold to the idea that the fact the SEC has eight teams in the top 25 shows the weakness of other conferences and not necessarily the greatness of the SEC. I just don't think Mizzou and UGA (with their injuries) are top 25 teams. Auburn still has some work to do before I'd rank them. Wazzu St and Ole Miss are OK wins but if other conferences were better, Auburn wouldn't be ranked.

The Crimson White | Alabama hits ground running in 48-7 victory

AJ McCarron also threw for a career-high 359 yards, marking the first time in Alabama history that the Crimson Tide has had a 300-yard passer and two 100-yard rushers. "I was really proud of the way we dominated the line of scrimmage offensively," Saban said. "AJ had a really good game, made a lot of plays, made a lot of explosive plays passing. Everybody’s got to be accountable to do their role so that we can be the best team than we can be."

CECIL HURT: Alabama steadily improving, hasn't yet peaked | TuscaloosaNews.com

Whatever complaints Alabama fans might have, UA was overwhelming. Kentucky never slowed down the UA offense at all. Cody Mandell had to punt once, when a dropped ball kept Alabama from making an easy third-down conversion. The next two drives were scuttled by fumbles.

Not a perfect game but the closest to a complete game we've seen this season.

Former Alabama star Alex Avila's homer sparks Detroit before Boston's rally in ALCS | al.com

David Ortiz's eighth-inning grand slam erased a deficit, and the Boston Red Sox evened the AL Championship Series at 1-1 with a 6-5 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. But one of the reasons for the deficit was Detroit's Alex Avila, who accounted for three of the Tigers' runs. The former Alabama star had two hits, including a home run.

No. 1 Alabama a four-touchdown favorite over reeling Arkansas | al.com

After a 3-0 start, the Razorbacks are reeling. They've lost four straight and suffered their worst defeat of the year Saturday, a 52-7 drubbing at the hands of South Carolina. Arkansas has lost all three of its SEC games by double digits. In its last two trips to Bryant-Denny Stadium, Arkansas has lost by an average of 26 points. Saturday's game will be Arkansas' fourth straight against a team ranked in the top 20 of the AP poll.

Todd McShay calls AJ McCarron 'third tier' at same time QB executes flawless TD drive (video) | al.com

"I don't if he's going to be in the first round," McShay during the play. "I do think when we get into day two, he fits in there. You have a lot of second-round, third-round quarterbacks in this year's draft.

The timing of the segment was dumb but the statement was right.. AJ won't and shouldn't be a first round pick. His arm strength and down the field passing isn't where it should be for a 1st round grade. I'm gonna bet he is a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick.

Four downs: Talking Amari Cooper, AJ McCarron's pursuit of Alabama history and more | al.com

On Saturday, Cooper received his first start since the season opener. He was targeted four times and ultimately finished with three catches for 64 yards. Cooper actually caught the lone incompletion, but he wasn't able to keep a foot fully in bounds. All of his receptions were good for more than 10 yards. Three of the nine receptions he had before Saturday did not crack double digits. His 42-yard reception in the third quarter was twice as long as his previous long on the year.
