According to Coach Saban today in his press conference, Junior safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has been suspended indefinietely for violation of team rules. Saban gave no explanation for the suspension or how long the suspension will last.
If you remember Nick Perry has been Ha Ha's back-up but he is out for the year with a shoulder injury. Saban said that both Landon Collins and Geno Smith will fill in for Ha Ha in the upcoming game against Georgia State.
As for the impact on the rest of the season, this is certainly not good news and we'd better hope this is a 1-2 gamer and Ha Ha is back on the field before LSU...
Hope for the best and Roll Tide
UPDATE:
And the picture becomes a bit clearer...
Update RT @tuscaloosanews: BREAKING: UA asst. strength coach put on admin. leave for providing money to Clinton-Dix http://t.co/DlekggB1k9
— Cecil Hurt (@CecilHurt) October 3, 2013
The strength coach named in the report (Corey Harris) apparently has some ties to an agent as well. This could very well be a simple non-story where we could lose HaHa for two games and no one bats an eye, or this could unravel into a story where Harris was giving money to multiple players as a go-between for an agent, and the season could basically be lost. There's really no way to know. What we do know is that, as of right now, this only involves one assistant coach giving one player a small loan (under $500), which that player can document was paid back. Given that information, it seems that it's reasonable to operate under the assumption that this was a single instance and not lose our heads. Just yet.
