In Saturday's television broadcast of the Alabama-Tennessee game, CBS announcer Gary Danielson mentioned that he asked Nick Saban if he would be participating in Halloween during this bye week. Saban answered that he would be recruiting. If you know Saban and The Process®, you know he wasn't joking.
On Tuesday evening, Josh Casher made his verbal commitment to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The 6-1 295 center currently plays for St. Paul's in Mobile, AL - high school of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron.
Casher who will be participating in the 2014 Under Armour All-American game is a 4-star center and rated the second best center in the nation. The #1 center is future teammate JC Hassenauer.
Casher had been committed to Auburn but de-committed this summer. He was supposed to be making an official visit to Florida State this weekend but went ahead and made his official pledge to the Crimson Tide.
The Tide now has 22 verbal commitments for the Class of 2014. He joins six other offensive lineman in this class: Hassenauer, Cameron Robinson, Ross Pierschbacher, Viane Talamaivao, Dominick Jackson, and Montel McBride.
EDITORIAL: Without a doubt, this is yet another remarkable class that Saban and staff are putting together and an even more excellent group of offensive linemen. However, it seems odd to be taking seven O-linemen in one class. It is possible that the staff is expecting a defection or perhaps academic issues for someone. But then again, maybe he likes the competition. Whatever it is, Nick Saban never ceases to amaze.
