“The key to the game was that we had good offensive pressure throughout the game,” Alabama coach Mitch Gaspard said. “We were sitting with one hit towards the middle of the game, but we had a lot of quality at-bats and hit a lot of balls hard, but they just didn’t fall. Overall we had good offensive pressure in seven of the nine innings.”

"We scored well on vault, but we still have a lot of things we can improve on," Patterson said. Senior Marissa Gutierrez, who notched a career-best 9.95 on the vault, landed awkwardly on her foot during her floor exercise routine and was carried off the mat. Her status is uncertain as the Crimson Tide heads into next week's meet against No. 5 UCLA at Coleman Coliseum.

Freshman Georgie Salem went 3 for 5 to lead the Crimson Tide, which broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the eighth inning. Austen Smith drove in the tying run in the seventh inning with his first hit of the season and Kenny Roberts capped a 2-for-3 performance with the game-winning hit, a single in the eighth inning.

Releford isn’t even finished with his third season at Alabama. He was at the center of some mild news Thursday when it was revealed that he was 231 pounds -- 11 heavier than his listed playing weight during his final season with the Crimson Tide. It didn't appear to be by accident, as Lacy said he didn't plan to drop any weight between now and Pro Day.
