Five things Alabama can't do Saturday in SEC showdown at No. 8 Florida | al.com

2. Scoring drought(s) It happens every game, win or lose. Alabama’s offense shuts down, sometimes for a long stretch. On Tuesday, the Tide was scoreless for 9½ minutes in the first-half of a 61-43 victory over Auburn. Any scoreless stretch that lasts more than three minutes in this game will be hard to overcome. Forget winning if there are multiple droughts

"We were both back and forth like two heavyweight boxers," Patterson said. "I ranked them in the beginning of the year as one of the most talented teams in the country. It's a Hollywood influence."

They also left Saban in a no-win situation by leaving him no choice. He took some criticism, not a withering blast but a few swipes, because he didn't throw the four out the door immediately. Two weeks later, he is taking at least a few hits for dismissing them at all, at least from some journalists who relate the dismissals to Alabama's roster management. (I assume those individuals would feel better if the four had been kept on, which doesn't make much sense.)

Top-tier gymnastics programs face off | TuscaloosaNews.com

Both programs have won six titles apiece — half of an elite group of only four schools that have ever won one. But their methods couldn't be more different. On one hand, there's Alabama: home to some of the greatest tradition in sport. The hardworking, nose-to-the-grindstone attitude permeates the University's athletics culture. Coach Sarah Patterson began as a humble coach out of Slippery Rock State College in New York State. Then there's UCLA: stuck right in the middle of Beverly Hills under the bright lights of Hollywood. Head coach Valorie Kondos Field's background is not in gymnastics, but dance.

Defense, bullpen fuel Alabama baseball's hot start | TuscaloosaNews.com

“It just makes you that much more confident about pitching to contact,” senior right-hander Charley Sullivan said. “You’re not worried about nibbling (around the plate). You’re just worried about making quality pitches in the strike zone and letting them hit. The earlier they hit, the lower your pitch count’s going to be that game and the longer you can go.”

Baseball team to host Green Wave

It’s been a year since the one-year anniversary for when the two teams last squared off on the diamond. Last year, the Green Wave took two out of three from the Crimson Tide in that series at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans, La., to improve to 10-2 on the year en route to a 38-20 season. The Tide fell to 5-6 that ultimately led to a dismal 21-34 record. That was last year though, when both teams stood in completely different positions from where they do now. It’s the Tide who now come in as the favorites with a 7-1 record and the Green Wave struggling to get things going at 3-5.

"I know a lot of people have talked about it. I'm being more meticulous on this case just because of so much involvement from the outside world."
