SEC Basketball Tournament Day 2: Preview & Game Thread

New, comment

The SEC Men's basketball tournament tips off at noon. All games will be televised today on the SEC Network/ESPN3.

Was this the biggest highlight of day one? Likely so.

Well, that was fun. MSU pulled off the mild upset by beating USCe 70-59, and TAMU put the barners out of their misery with a 71-62 victory. Neither is a monumental result for Alabama, but they're the outcomes we wanted to see nonetheless.

Today's opener promises to be a good one, with the slightly underachieving Georgia Bulldogs facing off against the barely overachieving LSU Tigers at noon. If you remember any of our games with either of these teams, you know how dangerous each can be. My head says go with LSU, but my heart says UGA...mainly because I'm hoping it will give the SEC Network every excuse to replay this.

Game two features the Tennessee Vols against MSU at 2:30PM. This will likely mark the end of the road for the Bulldogs, who should honestly be thankful that they even advanced to play again today considering how their season has gone. The silver lining to a potential UT win is that it would provide Alabama with an opportunity to take down a fellow SEC bubble team, and of course, one that we love to beat no matter what the circumstance.

Vanderbilt faces Arkansas in game three at 6:30PM, and I'm not sure how much it matters who wins this one. Arkansas is almost on the bubble, so I guess we should root against them, but I'm still pissed at Vandy for the travesty that occurred in their house when we traveled there in 2011. Either way, I consider this the least important game of the day for fans of the Tide.

Finally, at 9PM, the conferences two rookie teams will play each other for a chance to dance. True, Texas A&M will have to win out to advance, and Mizzou has all but wrapped up their own invitation; however, this promises to be one of the best games of the day. TAMU has had a disappointing season, but they do feature one of the most electrifying players in the league in forward Elston Turner. And Mizzou is always exciting to watch.

All of today's games will air on the SEC Network/ESPN3.

Y'all enjoy. Roll Tide.
