The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.
- Samuel Johnson
I have never exchanged a single word with Mal Moore, and now I never will. My father, however, was lucky enough to have had this opportunity, albeit only once.
On December 4, 1999, #7 Alabama beat the #5 Florida Gators 34-7 in the 1999 SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, Georgia. Once the game was over, my father and uncle went dowstairs and managed to get right outside the locker room door. I'm not sure what exactly they were trying to do, and I'm certain they weren't either, but there they were. To their surprise, Athletic Director Mal Moore came walking up and stood right out there with them, apparently reluctant to interrupt the team's celebration. My Dad and uncle are pretty sure that Coach Moore knew that they didn't belong there, but rather than order them out of the area or contacting security, he treated them like they were old friends, thanking them for being there to support the team and chatting with them for the ten minutes or so it took for Coach DuBose to come out.
Roll Tide.
