Bama Gets Commitment From a Big Man To Clog the Middle

We are talking 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer, big rig.

Coming soon: a large, large man.
Coming soon: a large, large man.

On Friday, O.J. Smith became the seventh commitment of the Class of 2014.

The big defensive tackle from Bossier City (La.) Airline High School is 6'2 and depending on the listing, weighs in around 320-330 pounds. Rivals lists his time in the 40 at 5 flat.

We wears #99 and the numerals look tiny on his large frame.

It would seem that Saban & staff want Smith as a wide body to stuff the middle in the style of past Alabama nose tackle greats Terrence Cody, Marcell Dareus, Josh Chapman, Jesse Williams, etc.

Smith is currently unrated by ESPN, Rivals & Scout but I suspect that to change soon. 247sports gives him 3 stars.

He may have been flying under the radar so far, though that will change now. His only other offers came from Mississippi State, Hawaii, La-Lafayette, Southern Miss, and Memphis. But don't let that fool you. LSU, Oklahoma, and Texas among others have all had him in to work out at their camps and showed serious interest in him. Smith was in Tuscaloosa for A-Day.
