5Dimes releases college football win totals for select teams; BCS champion Alabama opens at 11.5 | Beyond the Bets

Can two-time defending BCS national champion Alabama run the table en route to a third straight title?

It certainly seems possible. The Tide return several key components from last year’s team, and though they play in the country’s most dominant conference, the overall schedule—where they’ll be favored by at least a field goal in every game—seems fairly weak.

I know the facts of the matter. I realize Bama is going to be strong this fall (barring unforeseen circumstances), and I know the schedule is relatively weak. Despite knowing these things, it still seems kind of crazy to see people basically setting the over/under for Bama wins at 12. That being said, bet the house on the over, y'all.

Alabama signees Darius Paige, Jonathan Cook making final push toward enrollment

Spanish Fort coach Mark Freeman wrote in a text Tuesday that everything is "looking good" for Cook. Freeman told earlier this month that Cook was finishing up one class to complete his eligibility.

"He is retaking a class he took in the ninth grade that the NCAA accepted then but does not accept now," Freeman said. "He will be fine. He will be at Alabama this summer."

A source close to Paige confirmed that he was retaking an English class from his early high school years at Washington High in Pensacola, Fla., and was also hoping to boost his ACT score. An improvement in one of the two should be enough to get Paige on campus, the source said.

It sounds like Cook should be in good shape, which I'm particularly happy about. I'm firmly on the record as someone that thinks Cook could be the next big thing in the Bama secondary, and the fact that it seems he'll be making it to campus makes me excited.

Paige is a bit of a different story. Some of you may remember Darius' name from the stories about his controversial transfer to Foley High School. Unfortunately, it seems that the contentious move was not enough on its own to secure admittance, and one last piece of the puzzle is lacking. Luckily, it looks like he has two opportunities to make it, and he only needs to capitalize on one of them. Who knows what the likelihood of him making it is in real terms, but as far as this fall is concerned, I don't think it makes a big difference either way. Most recruiting services had Paige weighing in right under 300 pounds. Given the fact that he projects as nose tackle, I think Paige was headed for a redshirt year no matter what.
