On June 8, Alabama held a specialized camp for Kickers and Long Snappers and came out with the 10th commitment for the 2014 class.
J.K. Scott made his verbal pledge on Sunday. He is a three star* punter and kicker from Mullen High School in Denver, Colorado. He is 6-5 185 lbs. The Mullen football program has won 14 State Championships (most recent wins: 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010).
Chris Sailer runs a respected kicking camp and has this to say about Scott:
JK is the most talented all around kicker / punter in the Class of 2014. He has great size, strength, and natural ability. His best ball off the ground is untouchable. His kickoffs are D1 ready. And his best quality is his punting. JK is a sure fire scholarship player and one of the very best combo players that we have seen in years. OFFER NOW!!!
JK is one of the most gifted natural punter that we have ever seen. He has the size, strength, and talent to be a great college punter. He reminds me a lot of former #1 High School Punter Bryan Anger as a young high school punter. The sky is the limit. Also a big time kicker. JK is a phenomenal combo prospect. OFFER NOW!!!
Sailer ranks Scott as the #1 punter and #10 placekicker for 2014.
With Cody Mandell beginning his senior year in 2013, the Crimson Tide will be looking for a new punter and Scott is a good place to start.
Scott chose Alabama over Notre Dame, Colorado, and Arizona.
UPDATE: Here is a video of him punting. He shows good composure getting off a 36-yarder after the ball was snapped over his head. Also, a video of his kickoffs.
*Kickers rarely get more than three stars.
