Coach Nick Saban announced after Tuesday's practice that junior middle linebacker Trey DePriest has been suspended for a violation of team rules.
He did not participate in Tuesday's practice.
Saban told reporters that DePriest will be eligible to return to the team "if he does what he's supposed to in relatively short order." He went on to say the suspension could last as short as one week. No other details are available at this time.
DePriest is a returning starter on the defense. He was second on the team in tackles in 2012 with 56 tackles (29 solo), four tackles for loss (16 yards), two pass breakups, and a pair of quarterback hurries.
The silver lining here is that sophomores Reggie Ragland and Dillon Lee will get more snaps at the Mike position
It was also announced that sophomore tight end Malcolm Faciane returned to practice on Tuesday after serving a 30 day suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules of his own.
