hubris [hyoo-bris, hoo-]

Noun

1. Pride or arrogance

2. (Greek tragedy) an excess of ambition, pride, etc ultimately causing one’s downfall.

While this is the Gump Golden Age, Alabama fans should take care to steer clear of the overly prideful, arrogant displays that have dethroned recent would-be dynasties. The hubris of a Pete Carroll and USC, for instance, has a way of ultimately undoing that success. Immediately after this game, USC would have the NCAA banhammer dropped on them; Carroll was forced to leave town like a beaten dog; and USC hired Lane Kiffin. No one deserves Lane Kiffin, save as punishment for their hubris.
