It's time for some RBSR analysis.
A quick reminder about what constitutes a "successful" run - a run is considered successful under the following conditions:
- On first down, the runner must gain 40%+ of the yardage necessary to reach a first down.
- On second downs, the runner must gain 60%+ of the remaining yardage necessary for a first down.
- On third and fourth downs, the runner must gain 100%+ of the remaining yardage necessary for a first down.
To put some simple numbers to it, if a runner ran the ball three consecutive times in a standard 1st and 10 situation, he would have to gain 4 yards on first down (40% of 10 yards), 4 yards on second down (60% of 6 yards), and 2 yards on third or fourth down (100% of the remaining 2 yards).
Now let's see how everyone performed in week four.

Not great numbers from the Bama group this week. Yeldon's numbers initially look ok, but if you take out his one run for 38 yards, you're left with six carries for eleven yards. That would be a bad average against LSU. Against Colorado State, it's inexcusable.
Outside of Bama, Tre Mason of Auburn and Jeremy Hill of LSU both got a healthy work load this week. It's interesting to note the amount of success that Auburn had with their power running backs. Those two combined for well over five yards a carry and a 79% success rate. Maybe we should all pump the brakes a bit on crowning LSU.
Similar to Bama's game, Georgia's backs had a tough day, combining for a 38% success rate and 3.7 YPC average against what should have been a greatly outmatched opponent in North Texas.

True freshman Alex Collins of Arkansas is pulling away from the pack as the workhorse of the SEC, ashe already has more than a game's worth of carries between him and the next most active back. It's still early in the season, and Arkansas has yet to hit the meat of their schedule, but at this point, it's hard to consider Collins anything other than an unmitigated success. Huge get for Bielema's young program.
