Conference season: the real season. Not very many upsets or disturbances in the Force this week, as better teams generally won, but, man, did they struggle: Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama, Baylor, Michigan, and, to a lesser extent, Florida State all had troubles with their conference foes -with Alabama finally being on the receiving end of someone else's kicking gaffe. Only the Mississippi schools and Oregon looked good.
That said, #FireBobbyWilliams; no one in America is a worse special teams/tight end "coach," two units with crucial mistakes in back-to-back weeks that led directly to one loss, and against a better team, would have gotten Alabama blown out this week. Saban allegedly demands accountability from players and coaches...just once, then, it would be refreshing to see him forsake friendship and place the blame squarely on Williams' shoulders. And, on the coaching front, Lane Kiffin called his worst game of the season. Still, in an ugly, sloppy monsoon game, I did enjoy watching both teams' defensive lines. That was sexymanbeast football.
Poll below: And, yes, I realize Duke just beat Georgia Tech head-to-head; ditto UCLA-Arizona State. Don't care; as the top of the blog poll shows, it's not just who you beat, it's how you beat them...and how ugly you've looked along the way. Alabama and Oklahoma's struggles in wins, for instance, earns a demotion/stagnation.
