Ranking All 128 College Football Head Coaches for 2014 | AthlonSports.com
Saban is at the top of his game and is easily the No. 1 coach in the nation. In seven years at Alabama, Saban is 79-15 and has claimed three national championships. The Crimson Tide has finished in the top 10 of the final Associated Press poll in each of the last six years and only one of Saban’s seasons resulted in less than 10 victories.
This is an obvious choice but there are a few included in the top 10 that seem to be a stretch, mainly Urbz at #2, Bob Stoops at #4 (he is riding that single win over Bama to death), and even James Franklin at #11 is silly. Malzahn landing at #10 makes sense. I guess, but with just a single year as the Auburn head coach the jury is still out. If he continues his success at Auburn, he'll be in the top five in no time.
No. 9 Alabama Baseball Falls to UAB, 2-1 - ROLLTIDE.COM
"A lot of credit goes to UAB, they threw a lot of different arms at us and gave us a lot of different looks," Alabama head coach Mitch Gaspard said. "Offensively, we never really got into a good rhythm. We certainly pitched well enough and Geoffrey Bramblett was really good in his first collegiate start."
Mid week games are weird and are generally not a good measuring stick for how well a team is playing. Case in point, #25 North Carolina St lost to East Carolina 7-0 last night, North Carolina lost to Coastal Carolina 3-2 in 11 innings, and on Tuesday #2 FSU lost to Florida 8-0 (who officially swept the season series) .
Roger will have his game recap up shortly but I wouldn't read too much into this loss (unless Roger says we should).
Ranking All 128 College Football Coaching Jobs for 2014 | AthlonSports.com
Location. Location. Location. Florida is a public university in a state that produces a tremendous amount of top-flight talent. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium offers one of the best atmospheres in college football, and the fan base is as rabid as there is in the nation.
Alabama ranks #3, just behind UF, but I wonder...If the Alabama and UF jobs opened up at the same time, which one would be filled first and which one would be the more desirable destination for an elite level head coach?
No. 2 Alabama softball holds off UAB in 4-3 win | AL.com
No. 2 Alabama needed a big fifth inning to distance itself from UAB team on its way to a 4-3 victory at Rhoads Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The Crimson Tide (36-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a tie ballgame and held on despite a serious threat against a hot Blazers squad on its 10th straight victory and 19th in its last 20 outings.
Lawsuit challenges NCAA rules capping the value of athletic scholarships | AL.com
Alston's suit seeks an injunction that enjoins the NCAA and the five major conferences from maintaining the present NCAA bylaw limiting financial aid to the currently-defined grant-in-aid value. The suit also seeks damages for the difference between the grants-in-aid awarded and the cost of attendance. Damages under antitrust law would triple, meaning this case could be worth more than $200 million.
Judicial panel considers joining 2 major cases against NCAA and power 5 conferences | AL.com
Lawyers for Alston want the case to be consolidated with the Martin Jenkins suit that was filed against the same parties by high-profile attorney Jeffrey Kessler. Jenkins is a Clemson football player and one of several plaintiffs in the New Jersey suit brought by Kessler, whose complaint alleges that college athletes' compensation has been unlawfully capped at scholarships.
Kessler helped bring free agency to the NFL If you have two plaintiffs in different courts seeking injunctive relief, one could declare the NCAA rule of capping scholarships invalid and another could say it's totally valid. You could get total confusion and inconsistent results."
Pell Grants for Players: Division I athletes in Alabama got $4.8 million in need-based aid | AL.com
Two hundred Troy athletes received $849,143 in Pell Grants, by far the most need-based federal aid provided to a set of Division I athletes in Alabama. Alabama State had the second-highest amount with $678,984 going to 147 athletes. The University of Alabama had 131 athletes receive $566,495 in federal aid, with football players accounting for 51 percent of the total.

15 things we have to explain about the song 'Sweet Home Alabama' | AL.com
The song appears in numerous movies, including "Forrest Gump," 2003’s "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Crimson Tide," "Con Air," "Joe Dirt," "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Despicable Me."
Has anyone ever seen the beginning of Despicable Me? If not, here's your chance. I don't know whether I should shake my head or nod in agreement. Oh and the movie "Sweet Home Alabama" is an abomination.
