Sunday Morning Hangover: The 2014 NFL Draft Alabama Round-Up

After a LONG weekend of name-calling, the dust is starting to settle on the 2014 NFL Draft. While there were plenty of surprises - some good, some bad - the Nick Saban Process® at Alabama has again proved to be a proficient supplier of NFL-ready talent.

* This is the first time since 1937 that the Longhorns had no players picked.

What they didn't tell you:

  • After three first round picks for Texas A&M, no more Aggies were selected.
  • Not a good weekend for Mark Richt. First was news that safety Shaq Wiggins will transfer. Then, Georgia fans had to wait until Saturday to see the first of only two Bulldogs drafted: Arthur Lynch (5th round, #155 overall) and Aaron Murray (5th, #163). Does anyone else recall all that UGA "Dream Team" talk from National Signing Day 2011?
  • Four Canadian born players including one from McGill University were taken in the draft.

Undergrads:

  • 36 of 98 underclassmen were not drafted. This list includes Hubbard, James Wilder Jr. RB (FSU), Isaiah Crowell RB (Alabama St), George Atkinson III RB (Notre Dame), Antonio Richardson OT (Tennessee), Craig Loston S (LSU), Anthony Johnson DT (LSU), Loucheiz Purifoy CB (Florida), Marcus Roberson CB (Florida), and Vic Hampton CB (South Carolina).
  • 44% of 194 underclassmen that declared early from last 3 drafts were not on NFL rosters at end of 2013 season.
