Who Needs a Blog Poll: Week Six - Nebraska can still run the ball!

New, 100 comments

Preseason's over kids; it's going to get weirder from here on out.

Playing better than Gurley, Gordon, or anyone else you'd care to name.

For fans of chaos, yesterday was such a tease: No major upsets at the top and just a few shakeups at the bottom. And, if you're a fan of a power team, do I have good news for you, four of the Top Ten didn't even play (don't say that conferences don't help ease their standard-bearers into conference slate).

Not a whole lot of movement below, but some adjustments based on play and the ever-unimportant transitive victories!

O, Hai! Missouri- Ugly, ugly 4-1 team gutted out a revenge win in Columbia Kansas State- Team is finally getting its sea legs. They are going to wreck someone's season. USC Trojans- Good Coliseum win over an improved Beaver team. Maryland Terrapins - Edsall is doing some quietly excellent work in College Park. Don't look now, but the WRs are already the best group in the Big Ten. Looking around the state of the East, the Terps could easily be a player.

Be Gone! Cincinnati Bearcats- that whole defense thing I mentioned last week? Yeah, I know it was an angry Ohio State team, but you never even got off the bus. East Carolina is going to slaughter this team. Penn State Nittany Lions- Ball don't lie, and skating by with that many mistakes has a way of biting you in the backside. As ugly a quarterbacking performance as I've seen in a long time. Also, who'd have ever though that Penn friggin' State can't run the ball? Arizona State Sun Devils - What in the hell was that? UCLA isn't elebenty points better, surely...but the Sun Devils made a struggling team look like the 2001 Miami Hurricanes. South Carolina Gamecocks- South Carolina just ceded the SEC-East to the Missouri Tigers.

General Thoughts:

  • The Michigan State-Nebraska game this week is going to be a lot of fun. The Huskers remember their identity and literally no one in the country is playing better than Ameer Abdullah.

  • Dr. Bo needs malpractice insurance; another four-turnover performance at home versus a game, if not outmanned, Memphis Tiger defense. I don't see this team beating anyone else in the West, and that includes Arkansas. The defense is wicked nasty, but still vulnerable right up the gut. You have to outhit this team and make the Rebels drive the field, mistake-free (spoiler: they can't.)

  • Auburn has assed off all season. The offense is not on track, the running backs are racking up points and yards late in the fourth against guys that aren't particularly good teams. And they've yet to play a competent offense. Still think this is 9-3 team.

  • Florida State just isn't anything special. Porous defense, offense that gives it up like a working gal in Amsterdam. Notre Dame, if they can hold the pass rush, should feast on this secondary. The only other quasi-competent ACC team may be Georgia Tech.

  • Missouri is going to win the SEC East, and will be the worst team to do so since the bad ole' days when Arkansas and Mississippi represented the West. I still have no idea how South Carolina beat East Carolina. And, if you say you do, you're a liar.
