Daylon Charlot Commits to Alabama Over LSU

After months of decisions, indecisions, and roundabouts, the multi-talented slot receiver is finally back to where he initially planned on being.

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

Daylon Charlot initially committed to Alabama in February of 2014. He stuck with the Tide throughout the 2014 season, but decommitted in the first week of December. Most assumed he was planning on sticking with his home team, LSU. Over the next month, Charlot recommitted to Alabama, and decommitted again.

Finally, on National Signing Day, the skilled slot receiver has officially decided to play football with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The four-star receiver is the 90th overall player in the 2015 recruiting cycle and the 9th best receiver. He is also listed as the 4th best player in the state of Louisiana.1Charlot is an extremely smooth and natural athlete. As evidenced by his 4.35 forty-yard dash and 40-inch vertical jump, he has very impressive lower body strength and explosiveness. Charlot has natural hands and is fairly accomplished at high pointing a throw over a defender, especially for a smaller guy. He is a polished route runner- a must for a slot receiver- and is comfortable breaking either outside or across the middle. He throws in subtle head fakes at different points in his routes, showing his attention to detail in that regard.

His most impressive attribute, however, is his balance. Charlot has an uncanny ability to control his body in the air. He shows a propensity to box out defenders in the air in jump ball situations, and always land on his feet after making a catch. That balance translates into his after-the-catch game too, as he excels at bouncing off of tackles and staying upright.

With the graduation of three-year starter Christion Jones, Alabama is suddenly thin at slot receiver and kick returner. Fortunately, Charlot excels at both. In the UnderArmour All-America Game last month, he returned a punt for a touchdown against the top players in nation.

Daylon Charlot's commitment not only bolsters a position of need and rounds out Alabama's 2015 recruiting class, but also is another tally mark in Alabama's powerful recruiting allure and prowess out of the state of Louisiana.

Charlot's commitment gives Alabama 24 total players in the 2015 class.
