Last week, the Crimson Tide held a one-day kicking camp and came away with perhaps the kicker of the future. Eddy Pineiro of North Miami Beach, FL impressed coaches enough that he found himself with a scholarship offer.
So blessed to announce that I have committed on a full scholarship to play football at The University of Alabama pic.twitter.com/blPz7JdU7Z— Eddy Pineiro (@eddypineiro1) June 11, 2015
Pineiro (6’1″/180 lbs) is currently enrolled at ASA College, a juco in Miami, FL. According to reports, he plans to sits out this season at ASA so that he can graduate in December and enroll in January 2016. For this, he reportedly will have four years of eligibility to play for Alabama.
After graduating from Sunset High School in Miami, he went to ASA on a soccer scholarship. He has been working with a few kicking instructors including national coach, Chris Sailer, who also tutored Bama punter J.K. Scott among others. Sailer's website ranks Pineiro as the nation's #3 placekicker for 2016.
At an elite kicking camp called the Spring 2015 Kornblue Kicking Challenge, Eddy booted an event-record 86 yard kickoff. He also had kickoffs of 77 yds/4.07 seconds, 80 yds/3.59 sec, and 74 yds/4.28 sec. In field goals, he was seven of seven from 50 yards and in. He also connected on a 60 yarder in the long ball competition. His last field goal attempt was from 71 yards out which bounced off the crossbar.
Current Tide kicker Adam Griffith is a rising junior. Walk-on Gunnar Raborn who filled in for Griffith on occasion this past season will be a sophomore.
Pinieiro also had offers from Florida and Miami.
