Mario Cristobal's recruiting skills, Alabama's facilities, and the Tide's track record of developing pro-ready offensive linemen made the difference as OT Alex Underwood became the third Alabama commit in two days and the fourth of the 2017 season.
Per Leatherwood's coach, former FSU great Charlie Ward, he is a raw prospect at this point, but is very coachable and has natural skills for the position. The Pensacola prospect also comes across a serious, intelligent, and measured guy if his interviews are any indication; I seriously doubt qualifying or on-campus shenanigans are going to be an issue here. As noted in yesterday's Summer Camp recruiting update, Leatherwood is not yet ranked, but already holds an offer from Florida.
"They got a very good player," said Leatherwood's head coach, Charlie Ward. "He's still raw. But he's a big guy with a great future. He's willing to learn and football is very important to him."
Check out Leatherwood's highlight film, too. Charlie Ward was right - Leatherwood possesses good natural athleticism, and he does have a nasty streak. He will only improve after two more years of development and coaching.

Finally, 247 Sports has expanded comments from Leatherwood and Coach Ward.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pounder runs a 5.3-second 40-yard dash with a pro shuttle of 4.9-seconds. He also bench presses 355 pounds.
Leatherwood chose Alabama over an offer from Florida.
"I love it at Alabama," Leatherwood said. "I'm very serious about football and my future. I've done my research. It's for my career and Alabama is the place to be. They send players to the league year after year. They have great facilities. It's a great school."
Welcome to Alabama, Alex, and Roll Tide.
